  • Final Basketball Players of the Week Announced
    March 12, 2018
    The OCCAC handed out its final Basketball Player of the Week awards of the 2017-18 season, honoring the District Tournament MVP performances of Brenda Pennington (Owens) and Quintin Dove (Cuyahoga). Both Owens Women’s Basketball and Cuyahoga Men’s Basketball qualified for the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. No D-III OCCAC teams competed last week.
  • OCCAC Representing in National Basketball Tournaments
    March 11, 2018
    Three OCCAC member schools have advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament in their respective basketball divisions. The fifth-ranked Express of Owens Community College topped No. 9 Sinclair, 73-64, to earn their spot in the 16-team NJCAA D-II Women’s National Tournament. On the men’s side, Cuyahoga and Columbus State are battling for national titles in the D-II and D-III Men’s National Tournaments, respectively.
  • Men's Basketball Postseason Awards Selected

    The 2017-18 OCCAC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams have been announced, highlighted by Cuyahoga’s Quintin Dove earning Player of the Year recognition. LiDonta Hicks-Gentry of Sinclair received the second most votes to join Dove on the OCCAC All-Conference First Team alongside Mario Young (Columbus State), Devon Robinson (Cuyahoga), Gabe Simpson (Owens) and Chris Byrd (Columbus State).
  • NJCAA D-II Men's Basketball District 11 Tournament Bracket
    March 06, 2018
    Five OCCAC men's basketball teams will compete in the NJCAA D-II Men's Basketball District 11 Tournament for advancement into the National Tournament Sweet 16. Action begins Tuesday night (March 6) with No. 4-seed Lakeland facing No. 5-seed Edison State.
  • Basketball Players of the Week Selected
    March 05, 2018
    The final regular season OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week honorees have been selected and three conference institutions are represented. Division II winners are Lakeland’s Armani Jackson and LiDonta Hicks-Gentry of Sinclair. Allyse Rutter and Mario Young both led Columbus State to postseason victories to earn the D-III accolades.

    The Cougars earned their first trip to the NJCAA DIII national tournament with Saturday's victory against Joliet Junior College in the District II Championship game.

    Columbus State Community College swept the D-III OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week laurels for the third straight week with Destiny Wooten and Matthew Gierhart earning back-to-back honors while Lakeland Community College’s Armani Jackson and LiDonta Hicks-Gentry of Sinclair Community College were named the D-II recipients.

  • Cleveland Plain Dealer Profiles Cuyahoga's Devon Robinson

    Devon Robinson averages 13.1 points per game. His 11.3 rebounds are sixth in the nation and his 3.4 steals are fifth. Robinson, a 6-3 forward, had a career night against conference rival Lorain Community College earlier this month when he scored 38 points, collected 14 rebounds, nine steals and five assists. His effort earned him National Junior College Athletic Association Player of the Week.
  • Top Basketball Performers of the Week Selected
    January 29, 2018
    Four student-athletes, representing four different schools, have been selected as the OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week for Jan. 22-28. This week’s honorees are Dai’Shona Washington-Polk (D-II), Stephanie Newell (D-III), Isaiah Trice (D-II) and Zach Swain (D-III).
  • Fall OCCAC Academic All-Conference Honorees Announced

    All final grades are in from the Fall semester and a ton of STUDENT-athletes from across the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference have earned Academic All-Conference honors. To qualify, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.30 GPA or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours.

    Three of the four OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week for Dec. 25-31 are repeat performers from last week and the fourth was honored earlier in the season. Dai’Shona Washington-Polk (D-II female), LiDonta Hicks-Gentry (D-II, male) and Angel Blakely (D-III female) are all back-to-back winners while Jake Schultz brought home the D-III men’s accolade.
  • Holiday Cheer for OCCAC Players of the Week

    Four conference hoopers earned gifts during the holiday break, picking up Week 8’s OCCAC Player of the Week accolades. Owens and Sinclair split the D-II awards with Dai’Shona Washington-Polk (Owens) and LiDonta Hicks-Gentry (Sinclair) coming home to stuffed stockings while Lorain County’s Angel Blakely and Mike Rell opened up the D-III presents.

    This week’s OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week honorees went to three repeat winners alongside a school’s first ever selection. The D-II choices were Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair) and Devon Robinson (Cuyahoga) while Angel Blakely (Lorain County) and Noah Davis (Hocking College) brought home D-III laurels.

    Four student-athletes received OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday (Dec. 11). Lorain County Community College swept the D-III awards (Mike Rell and Angel Blakely) while Devon Robinson of Cuyahoga Community College earned D-II men’s recognition and Riley Culver (Edison State) was the D-II female recipient.
  • This One is Hard to Imagine!

    This one is truly remarkable. The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team has opened the 2017-18 basketball season with a perfect 9-0 record and is the highest-scoring NJCAA DIII team in the country, averaging 103.3 ppg. Along the way, the team has been the beneficiary of not one, not two, not three, not four, but NINE different scoring leaders in its nine games to date.
  • Week 5 Hardwood Heroes Selected by the OCCAC

    Highlighted by Sinclair Community College’s Amanda Schroeder earning her second consecutive distinction, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced its Basketball Players of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3. In addition to Schroeder earning the Women’s D-III accolade, Destiny Wooten and Chris Byrd from Columbus State picked up the D-III award while Quintin Byrd (Cuyahoga CC) is the D-II male recipient.

    As conference season starts to heat up in the coming days, the fourth Basketball Player of the Week awards of the season were released on Monday (Nov. 27). Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair) and Wade Lowman (Cuyahoga) brought home the D-II accolades while Lorain County’s Angel Blakely and Jake Schultz snagged the D-III laurels.

    Four student-athletes were selected Monday (Nov. 13) as the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Basketball Players of the Week. Ryann Greenfield (Cuyahoga) and Quantes Jackson (Sinclair) are the D-II award recipients while Lorain County’s Hannah Oehlstrom and Jovon Jones both collected the D-III weekly award.

    Cuyahoga Community College and Sinclair Community College are co-favorites in the OCCAC entering the 2017-18 men’s basketball season according to the Preseason Coaches Poll released Tuesday (Oct. 24). While the two programs tied in overall votes, Cuyahoga owns a slim 5-4 edge in first-place votes received.

  • OCCAC Basketball Stars Earn All-America Status
    A half dozen Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) basketball student-athletes put forth NJCAA All-American efforts during the 2017-18 season. Quinton Dove (Cuyahoga, men’s D-II), Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair, women’s D-II) and Mario Young (Columbus State, men’s D-III) were each named to their respective First Teams.
  • Academic All-Conference Accolades Announced
    A large contingent of student-athletes have earned Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Academic All-Conference honors for the Spring semester. To qualify, a student-athlete must achieve a 3.30 GPA or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours.
