Week 12's Basketball Best Announced

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – This week’s Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Basketball Players of the Week include two multiple-time winners (Amanda Schroeder and Mike Rell) alongside a pair first-time honorees (Stephanie Newell and Korey Joyner).

AMANDA SCHROEDER
Sinclair Community College
Freshman forward

Amanda Schroeder continued her dominant freshman campaign, earning her fifth conference player of the week accolade through 12 weeks of the season. Her latest award-worthy performance was an impressive one. In three Sinclair victories, Schroeder averaged 27.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.7 assists while shooting 71% (34-48) from the field. She knocked down 4-of-10 three pointers and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Speaking of 9-for-11, that’s what Schroeder shot from the field in scoring 25 points against No. 16 Edison State to conclude the week.

STEPHANIE NEWELL
Columbus State Community College
Sophomore forward

Stephanie Newell represents the fourth OCCAC D-III Women’s Player of the Week for Columbus State this season after averaging a double-double with 13.0 rebounds and 12.5 points per game. She committed just two turnovers in 71 minutes of action. Newell scored 17 points and hauled in 17 rebounds (10 offensive) to go along with five assists and four steals in a victory over Lorain County.

KOREY JOYNER
Clark State Community College
Freshman guard

Korey Joyner exploded for a 32.5 points per game average to lift Clark State to a pair of victories. He started by dropping in 29 versus Sinclair before coming right back with 36 more tallies against Lakeland. Joyner converted on half of his field goal attempts overall (24-of-48) and buried 16-of-19 foul shots. In addition to his scoring outbursts, he recorded per game clips of 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals. Joyner is the first Clark State male to win OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week since 1994.

MIKE RELL
Lorain County Community College
Sophomore guard

Mike Rell is back again as the OCCAC D-III Player of the Week, his fifth such standing this season. This time around he guided Lorain County to a 3-0 week by averaging 15.3 points per game to go with a total of eight rebounds, eight assists and seven steals. Rell made 66% (19-29) of his field goal attempts, including 4-of-8 from deep. The sophomore guard took care of the ball, committing just five turnovers in 103 minutes of play.
