Four Recipients Return to the Player of the Week Winner's Circle

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Columbus State Community College swept the D-III OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week laurels for the third straight week with Destiny Wooten and Matthew Gierhart earning back-to-back honors while Lakeland Community College’s Armani Jackson and LiDonta Hicks-Gentry of Sinclair Community College were named the D-II recipients.

ARMANI JACKSON
Lakeland Community College
Freshman forward

Jackson had a busy week, logging over 100 minutes on the court in a three-game week for the Lakers. She averaged a double-double with 15.3 points and 12.3 rebounds for the week. Jackson added in 2.3 steals and 1.7 blocks to her week’s stat line. Lakeland went 2-1, receiving double-doubles from Jackson in both victories while shooting 68% (13-19) during those two wins. This marks the third weekly award for Jackson this season, but first since Week 3 (Nov. 20).  

DESTINY WOOTEN
Columbus State Community College
Sophomore guard

Wooten is a back-to-back winner and owns four OCCAC accolades overall in 2017-18. This week, it was 33.5 points, 5.5 steals, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game averages which netted her the weekly laurel. She scored 30 or more points in both contests while shooting 47% (24-51) and playing every minute but one. Wooten posted a stellar defensive effort as well, highlighted by eight swipes in the Cougars’ 76-55 triumph over Lorain County.  

LIDONTA HICKS-GENTRY
Sinclair Community College
Sophomore forward

Hicks-Gentry was a monster over the last seven days, racking up 75 points and 52 rebounds in three games. His 25.0 points and 17.3 rebounds per game averages were accompanied by four assists and four blocks while shooting at a 63% (31-49) clip from the field. He also knocked down 11-of-12 foul shots and 2-of-5 from long range. Hicks-Gentry scored no less than 21 points in any of the three contests with a minimum of 11 rebounds. He blew the top off in an 89-69 win over Clark State, registering 31 points and a whopping 22 boards. Hicks-Gentry now owns four career OCCAC Player of the Week awards.

MATTHEW GIERHART
Columbus State Community College
Sophomore forward

Gierhart defended his crown as the OCCAC D-III Player of the Week by posting 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds averages in a 2-0 week which included victory over No. 9 Lorain County. In that big win, Gierhart was responsible for 16 points and 11 rebounds. For the week, he converted on 63% (15-25) of his field goal attempts and nailed 4-of-6 three-pointers. This marks the fifth time he’s earned OCCAC recognition in his career.
