SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Highlighted by Sinclair Community College’s Amanda Schroeder earning her second consecutive distinction, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced its Basketball Players of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3. In addition to Schroeder earning the Women’s D-III accolade, Destiny Wooten and Chris Byrd from Columbus State picked up the D-III award while Quintin Byrd (Cuyahoga CC) is the D-II male recipient.

Amanda Schroeder defended her crown as the conference’s D-II women’s player of the week. The Tartan Pride extended its current winning streak to six straight on the strength of Schroeder’s 32.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assist and 2.5 steals per game in a pair of league victories over Hocking College and Columbus State. She shot 63% (27-43) from the field, including a 3-for-8 effort from long range. While effective in Sinclair’s lopsided 130-33 triumph over Hocking College, Schroeder saved her best for the road win at Columbus State by racking up 37 points with 15 made field goals, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block.

Destiny Wooten recorded 20-plus points in both contests this past week, totaling 49 in two games. She converted on 17 of 45 field goal attempts while excelling at the free throw stripe with 10-of-11 makes. She posted a double-double (21 points-12 rebounds) to open the week versus Edison State before a 28-point performance later in the week against Sinclair.
Wooten is the second Cougar to win the award this season, following in the footsteps of Antishay Rahim (Nov. 20).
QUINTIN DOVE

Sophomore forward
Quintin Dove scored no less than 16 points in any of Cuyahoga’s three wins this week to improve to 11-0, 3-0 on the year. He averaged 17.0 points/game while blistering the nylon at a 73% shooting rate (19-of-26) from the floor and knocking down 13-of-15 (83%) from foul line. Dove got it done on the glass as well, bringing home a dozen rebounds per game. His biggest night came versus Niagara County, hitting 9-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Dove marks the third different Challenger to claim OCCAC Player of the Week honors through the first five weeks of the 2017-18 campaign.

Chris Byrd garnered his second weekly honor in the past three weeks, responsible for 43 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks in a pair of victorious outings for the Cougars. He began the week by hitting 11 field goals and five 3-pointers for 29 points in Columbus State’s 95-93 thrilling win over Edison State. Byrd then contributed 14 points, four assists and three rebounds as the D-III Cougars took out D-ii Preseason No. 20 Sinclair, 97-87.
