Four Student-Athletes Named OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – As conference season starts to heat up in the coming days, the fourth Basketball Player of the Week awards of the season were released on Monday (Nov. 27). Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair) and Wade Lowman (Cuyahoga) brought home the D-II accolades while Lorain County’s Angel Blakely and Jake Schultz snagged the D-III laurels.  

AMANDA SCHROEDER
Sinclair Community College
Freshman power forward

Amanda Schroeder nearly outscored Ohio State-Lima single-handedly in the Tartan Pride’s 100-39 dominance, notching 32 points of her own. She converted on 14-of-24 field goal attempts while further stuffing the stat sheet with four steals, three rebounds and two blocks. This marks the first career OCCAC Player of the Week honor for the freshman from Dayton, Ohio.

ANGEL BLAKELY

Sophomore forward

Angel Blakely recorded a double-double in the Commoodores’ lone contest last week, putting up 21 points and 13 rebounds.  She made nine field goals to record the 21 points and crashed the glass for three offensive boards. Blakely contributed a pair of assists and blocks as well.

This marks the third OCCAC D-III Women’s Basketball Player of the Week recognition for Lorain County through the first four weeks of the season after Hannah Oehlstrom won back-to-back awards (Nov. 6-13) to start the year.

WADE LOWMAN
Cuyahoga Community College
Sophomore forward/center

Wade Lowman earned his second career OCCAC Player of the Week honor by hitting 10-of-11 field goal attempts in Cuyahoga’s 81-67 triumph over preseason No. 5 Schoolcraft. The Challengers improved to 7-0 on the season, due in large part to Lowman’s stellar performance which included 22 points, six rebounds (four offensive) and three assists.

Lowman also picked up the weekly conference honor on March 5, 2017. He is the second Cuyahoga student-athlete to do so this season, following Devon Robinson’s recognition on Nov. 6.

JAKE SCHULTZ
Lorain County Community College
Sophomore guard

Jake Schultz did a little bit of everything in leading Lorain County to a 104-79 besting of Westmoreland County. The sophomore guard dropped in 7-of-9 field goal attempts for 14 points to go along with seven rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Schultz becomes the third different Commodore named OCCAC D-III Men’s Basketball Player of the Week through the first month of the season. Daniel Lott (Nov. 6) and Jovon Jones (Nov. 13), too, received the distinction.
