  • Many Making Transition From NJCAA to NCAA Competition

    A plethora of student-athletes which competed within the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference during the past two seasons have signed on to join NCAA-sponsored athletics programs in 2019-20.

    Five student-athletes earned 2018-19 OCCAC Sportsmanship of the Year Award accolades, one from each of the conference’s sponsored sports. This represents the third year of the award’s existence.

    The 2018-19 OCCAC D-II regular season comes to an end with two familiar faces as the league’s Basketball Players of the Week. Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair) snagged her fourth weekly honor this season (ninth career) and John Dawson (Lakeland) won the men’s award for the second time (also on Dec. 3).
  • Stat Stuffers Pick Up Weekly Awards

    Alicia Sephus (Lakeland) and Sean McNeil (Sinclair) stood out above all the rest from Feb. 18-24 and their efforts were recognized by the conference office on Feb. 25, announced as the OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week.

    In a week which saw 13 nominations submitted to the conference office, four student-athletes rose above the rest to claim Feb. 18’s OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week awards. Amanda Schroeder (Sinclair) and Taylor Works (Owens) are the women’s recipients while Lacey Watson (Edison State) and Azende Johnson (Hocking College) brought home the men’s accolades.

    With the race for OCCAC regular season basketball championships heating up, three student-athletes stood out above the rest from Feb. 4-10 to earn OCCAC Player of the Week accolades. This week’s recipients are Hattie Murphy (Cuyahoga), Whitney Thames (Owens) and Sean McNeil (Sinclair).
  • Week 14's OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week

    A handful of OCCAC hoopers have been recognized for their superb performances on the hardwood last week (Jan. 28-Feb. 3), named the conference’s Players of the Week. Kierre James (Sinclair) and Clair Schmitmeyer (Edison State) split the D-II women’s votes to earn co-accolades while Owens’ Moreina Moore picked up the D-III honors. For the men, Sean McNeil of Sinclair and Lorain County’s Thomas Hronis brought home the D-II and D-III laurels, respectively.
  • Four Student-Athletes Earn OCCAC Honors

    First-time recipient Jarrell Giles (Hocking College) joins three repeat winners as the OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week for Jan. 14-20. While Giles brings home the men’s D-III honor, Cuyahoga’s James Anderson, Jr., earns the D-II nod. Sarah Pothast from Edison State corrals her second straight D-II recognition and Whitney Staggs of Columbus State is the women’s D-III winner.

    The OCCAC has selected three student-athletes to receive Basketball Player of the Week laurels after a Thanksgiving week with limited on-court action. Sinclair’s Tre’maine Gray and Thomas Hronis of Lorain County were awarded the men’s D-II and D-III accolades while Clair Schmitmeyer (Edison State) is the women’s D-II recipient this week.

    The 2018-19 college basketball season arrived and the OCCAC has selected its first Player of the Week honorees. The D-II winners are Keeara Nared (Sinclair) and James Anderson, Jr. (Cuyahoga) while Taylor Works (Owens) and Justin Newman (Lorain County) earned the D-III laurels.
  • Cuyahoga Atop OCCAC Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll

    Cuyahoga Community College Men’s Basketball has been tabbed as the 2018-19 preseason favorite in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, receiving first-place votes from seven of the other eight head coaches across the league. Sinclair C.C. and Columbus State C.C. came in at No. 2 and No. 3 in the OCCAC Preseason Coaches Poll, respectively, each garnering one first-place vote.
  • Week 13 Players of the Week Announced
    Three student-athletes received OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week distinction on Monday (Jan. 28). Delesha Jackson (Lakeland) and Whitney Thames (Owens) are the female honorees while Tre’maine Gray of Sinclair snagged the D-II men’s accolade.
