Cougars impress in four set victory over Black Hawk East

The Kishwaukee Cougars arguably played their best match tonight in defeating Black Hawk East 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.

In a tight first set Black Hawk East used a 6-1 run at the end of the set to win 25-20. On an otherwise strong hitting night Kishwaukee could only muster 12 kills in the set. Abby Baker had six of those kills while Simone Miller added three.

Kishwaukee came out on fire in set two to take a quick 8-3 lead. Katie Roush helped build the lead with two kills during the run. Black Hawk East would not go away and eventually tied the game at 16 all. But Kishwaukee used a 9-1 run to even the match at a set apiece. Katie Roush led the team in the set with five kills.

With the third set tied at 5-5 Kishwaukee went on a 13-4 run to open up a18-9 lead. Emma Goodrich contributed a couple of kills during this stretch. Black Hawk East continued to chip away at the lead and closed within two at 22-20 before Kishwaukee finished off the set with two kills by Cydney Long. Long also dished out eight assists in the sets.

There was no questioning who was going to win the fourth set as Kishwaukee jumped out to a 17-6 lead and never looked back in winning the set 25-12. Five players had multiple kills lead by Baker and Roush with three each. 

Abby Baker led all attackers with 18 kills while Katie Roush added twelve kills. Cydney Long had 36 assists. Defensively Abby Baker had 17 digs while Sam Soddy had 13 digs.
