Springfield, Ohio---Tyanna Smith, a sophomore middle blocker for the Owens Community College women's volleyball team, has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) player of the week for Oct. 17-23.

Smith led Owens to a 4-0 record last week by producing 39 kills, 17 blocks, two digs and two assists. She also led the offense efficiently by hitting a combined .534 for the week.

In the team's straight set win over Lakeland on Wednesday, Smith had seven kills and three assists. However, she really made her mark over the next two conference matches to help Owens clinch at least a share of the OCCAC championship.

In a three-set win over Sinclair, Smith had 10 kills while hitting .909, and she added eight blocks. Then, in another three-set win over Cincinnati State, she had 13 kills and hit .750 while producing three more blocks. She then closed the week with nine kills, a .462 hitting percentage and three blocks in a non-conference win over Henry Ford in straight sets.

Smith now has 259 kills this year with a .404 hitting percentage. She has also contributed eight assists, 19 aces, 61 digs and 164 blocks.

Led by Smith, Owens is now 33-4 overall this year and 12-0 in OCCAC play. The team has won nine straight entering Wednesday's match against Lorain County Community College on the road. With a win, Owens would clinch the conference championship outright.
