Bellevue, Ohio---Amara Hemenway, a 5'10" middle blocker from Bellevue Senior High School, signed a letter of intent last week to play volleyball for the Express next year.

Hemenway had 506 kills and 75 aces in her high school career, which included 192 kills and 43 aces during her senior year. In her final high school season, she was named First Team All-Northern Ohio League (NOL), First Team All-District 6 and was the team's MVP.

"(I thought) Owens was a good fit for me," Hemenway said. "I really like the campus, they had my field of study and I really liked Denny (Caldwell, assistant coach) and Sonny (Lewis, head coach). It's also not too far from home."

As a junior, Hemenway was Honorable Mention All-NOL and Honorable Mention All-District 6, while she earned Second Team All-NOL and was the team's most improved player as a sophomore.

"After seeing her play, I knew we needed her on the team," Caldwell told The Bellevue Gazette newspaper at the signing ceremony. "She is very athletic and can move between multiple positions, which made us want her more."

Hemenway plans on majoring in sonography with the intention of becoming an ultrasound tech. She was coached at Bellevue by Karen Irons.
