Surge volleyball goes 1-1 on opening day of Grand Rapids Volleyball tournament

Grand Rapids, MI---Competing in this weekend's Grand Rapids Raider Volleyball Challenge, the Cincinnati State volleyball team beat Lawrence Tech and lost to Kishwaukee College on Saturday.

Against Kishwaukee, the Surge lost in three straight games 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17. Stephanie Gruenwald finished with team highs in kills with 9 and digs with 12.

In the afternoon match against Lawrence Tech, the Surge won the first game 25-13, the second game 25-21 and the third game 25-20. LaJoyia Whitney led all players in kills with 11 and finished with a match high 3 blocks. Playing on a injured ankle, Carly Henkenberns led the team with 24 digs. Stephanie Gruenwald recorded 7 kills and 23 digs.

Currently at 8-13 overall the Surge will compete in the final day of the tournament on Sunday with matches against St. Clair Community College and Alpena Community College.
