Sellers Named OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Toledo, OH---Dakia Sellers, a freshman outside hitter, helped the No. 17 Express secure the program's 13th OCCAC championship with two stellar individual performances last week. For her work, she was named the OCCAC Player of the Week.

Sellers had 48 kills, eight digs and seven blocks in wins over Sinclair Community College and Columbus State Community College. Against Sinclair, she had 25 kills, five digs and five blocks, while she had 23 kills, three digs and two blocks against Columbus State.

"Dakia is an exciting player to watch," said Express head volleyball coach Sonny Lewis. "She has great jumping ability and a quick arm swing. She brings a lot of excitement to the game."

Sellers is currently second in the nation in kills at the NJCAA D-II level. The Mansfield, OH native has 495 kills, eight assists, eight aces, 100 digs, 31 solo blocks and 107 assisted blocks for the Express (31-9 overall).

She joins her teammate Lisa Urbanski, who was named OCCAC Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

The Express will open Region XII tournament play on Friday Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. against Alpena Community College in the winner's bracket quarterfinal. The Express earned the #1 overall seed in the double elimination tournament that will be held at Grand Rapids Community College.
