Unfortunate bounce dooms Surge at Muskegon

Muskegon, MI---The Cincinnati State men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to Muskegon Community College on Saturday.

In a game featuring NJCAA Region XII top two teams, Cincinnati State out possessed and outshot Muskegon but were unable to find the back of the net, hitting two cross bars early in the first half. The only goal of the game came in the 32nd minute when Surge goalkeeper Brandon Isaac's attempt to clear the ball deflected off Muskegon's Riley Kammeraad and flew back 25 yards into the open net. It would be the only shot Muskegon put on target and proved to be the game winner as Muskegon preserved the 1-0 victory.

With the loss, Cincinnati State falls to 6-1-1 on the season with a 5-1 record in the region. Muskegon, which stands on top the regional standings, improved to 9-1 in Region XII competition.

The Surge, which are currently ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA national poll, will conclude their west Michigan road trip against Lake Michigan College on Sunday at 1 pm.
