Cincinnati State's Grothaus and Walker finish with hat tricks in win over Lakeland Community College

Kirtland, OH---The Cincinnati State men's soccer team opened up the regular season with an offensively charged 10-0 victory over conference opponent Lakeland Community College on Saturday.

The Surge were led by sophomores Kevin Walker and Kyle Grothaus. Walker recorded a pure hat trick with goals in the 19th, 22nd and 37th minute. He also added an assist to finish the contest with 7 points. Grothaus opened the Surge scoring in the 6th minute and added goals in the 41st and 72nd. Midfielder Liam Doyle finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. Forward Brad Gale and defenseman Austin Klueh also scored as the Surge continued a streak of 11 consecutive victories over the Lakers.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Hall, who set a OHSAA record for shutouts while playing for Summit Country Day, turned away 5 shots en route to his first collegiate career shutout.
 
After the game, Head Coach Mike Combs kept his team's performance in perspective.
 
"We played great," Combs said. "Having said that, it is one victory. We have a quick turnaround tomorrow with another conference match against Cuyahoga. I expect our guys to turn all their focus towards this next game."
 
The Surge's match at Cuyahoga Community College is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
