Cincinnati State sophomore Justin Mitchell scored three goals in the Surge's 8-2 win over Cuyahoga Community College on Sunday.
Mitchell, who recorded the first hat trick of his collegiate career, opened up the Surge scoring in the 8th minute. He added goals in the 41st and 55th minute off assists from Joe Bradley and Tyler Gumbert.
Defenders Liam Doyle and Austin Klueh also contributed offensively. Doyle scored twice on a header and free kick. Klueh scored off a rebound. David Elwer concluded the scoring on the day with a converted strike from outside the box.
Cuyahoga, who also surrendered an own goal to the Surge, were out shot 20 to 6.
Improving to 8-3 and 2-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State will return to action next Saturday on the road against Schoolcraft College, a team ranked No. 8 in the junior college national poll.
