Cincinnati, OH---The Edison Community Chargers mens basketball team traveled to Cincinnati State and dug a hole early in the contest and fought to dig their way out as the Surge from Cincinnati took a 32-23 halftime lead.
The Chargers got down by as many as 16 points trailing 50-36 with 12:30 left to play...but switched to a zone defense that started to frustrate Cincinnati Tech resulting in 5 turnovers leading to some easy scores.
The momentum began to shift and with 7:30 to play guard Mike Howard electrified Edison with a one handed jam to pull the chargers to within one point of Cincinnati. Moments later Nick Tingle hit a fielder inside to help Edison jump in front 55-54 for the first time since the first basket of the game.
The game seesawed back and forth and with Edison down 65-62 with 1:08 to go...Tingle connected inside for another bucket to pull Edison within one 65-64. Tingle's heroics didn't end there, Edison forced a Surge turnover that set up one last shot for the Chargers and Tingle broke free down the lane for the duece to go up 66-65.
Edison was able to hold on from there to seal th win in conference opening game of the year.
The surge fell to 13-5 on the year while Edison goes to 8-6. Edison was led by Nick Tingle with 16 points, Eric Beckstedt had 12, Kelley Kirtz and Jordan Taylor 11 each, Mike Howard 8, Brandon Ervin 7 points and Jacob Benanzer had 1.
