Commodores Fall to Lakeland CC

March 25, 2022 – – The Lorain County Community College baseball team stumbled against DII Lakeland Community College Friday afternoon at Mercy Health Stadium, falling 15-0 in game one and 11-8 in game two in their first taste of Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) competition.

Cody DeVos (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay HS) started game one for the Commodores but suffered his shortest outing of the young season, going just 2.2 innings pitched.  Despite only allowing one hit to the Lakers, DeVos had difficulty locating the strike zone as he walked eight batters with a pair of strikeouts.  Elijah Olah (Columbia Station, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) pitched in relief for LCCC going 2.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Jackson Shorter (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles Brush HS) started game two for LCCC and went 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts.  Jerrod Settie (Plymouth, Ohio/Plymouth HS) relieved in the fourth inning after the Lakeland hitters started to get to Shorter.  Settie would go 1.2 innings pitched with a strikeout.  Eziekiel Rivera (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) pitched the final 1.2 innings with one hit allowed and a strikeout.

Austin Isenhart (Pictured, Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) was the only Commodore to have a multi-hit game on the afternoon, doubling in his first at bat in game two and then beating out an infield single in his next at bat.  Nick Werth (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) had the only other extra base hit for LCCC.  Rocky Houston (Grafton, Ohio/Keystone HS) had a two RBI single in game two that put the Commodores down four runs.  The next batter, Houston was caught stealing but danced on the bases for enough time for a run to score cutting the Lakeland deficit to three runs.

The Commodores will return to Mercy Health Stadium this Monday for another doubleheader with the Lakers starting at 1pm.  LCCC was originally scheduled to play at Lakeland on Saturday but the incoming weather caused the doubleheader to be postponed.  LCCC's originally schedule game against Butler County Community College on Monday has been cancelled.
