Three Schools Boast OCCAC POTW Winners

The OCCAC has announced its player and pitcher of the week awards for this past week.

In baseball, Cuyahoga Community College's Tom Keaney took home pitcher of the week honors, while Owens Community College's Casey Gose took home player of the week honors.

Keaney held Owens Community College's offense to one hit over six innings last weekend. The right handed pitcher's lone game last week included five walks and four strikeouts, and his team picked up a 1-0 win. He improved to 3-2 this year.

Keaney is 3-2 overall this year with a 5.81 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 31 innings pitched for Cuyahoga (22-12, 6-6 OCCAC).

Gose, meanwhile, went 6-for-12 (.500) from the leadoff spot in the Owens lineup. He scored three runs, walked three times, had one double and produced two RBI.

Gose is 32-for-80 (.400) from the plate this year. He has five doubles, 22 runs, 17 RBI, seven walks and six stolen bases for Owens (11-13, 4-8 OCCAC).

In softball, Kaila Sturgell of Sinclair Community College earned pitcher of the week honors, while Owens Community College's Brittany George earned player of the week honors.

Sturgell went 1-0 over 9.2 innings pitched last week. She allowed 12 hits, five runs (four earned) and six walks while striking out nine.

Sturgell is 5-0 with a 4.13 ERA over 39 innings pitched for Sinclair (21-6, 4-2 OCCAC). She has struck out a team-high 54 batters.

George, meanwhile, went 8-for-16 (.500) last week with five runs, four doubles, five RBI and three stolen bases for Owens (18-12, 2-0 OCCAC).

For the season, George is hitting .404 with 29 runs, 10 doubles, six triples, two home runs, 29 RBI, eight walks and six stolen bases.

All four players were also nominated for NJCAA player and pitcher of the week honors, which will be announced Thursday. Alex Anders of Sinclair Community College won NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week honors last week.
