Cuyahoga's Chopka Highlights OCCAC POTW Awards

The OCCAC has announced its player and pitcher of the week awards for this past week, and Cuyahoga Community College's Meridith Chopka highlights the winners.

Chopka, a freshman pitcher, went 2-0 over three appearances this past week to earn pitcher of the week honors in softball. In 16.2 innings, she allowed 10 hits, four runs, four walks and struck out 32 batters.

In a 4-3 win over Monroe (N.Y.) Community College on April 1, Chopka struck out 11 over seven innings. She followed that up with 17 strikeouts in a 3-0 win over conference foe Sinclair Community College on April 4. She finished off the week by striking out four batters over 2.2 innings in a relief appearance.

Cuyahoga is 11-10 overall and 3-1 in OCCAC play.

Sinclair Community College's Rachael Ward, a sophomore infielder, went 5-for-13 last week with three runs, two home runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases to earn OCCAC player of the week honors in softball.

Ward led Sinclair to a 3-1 record last week, and her team is 18-5 overall and 3-1 in OCCAC play.

In baseball, Alex Anders (Fr. LHP) and Jimmy White (So. OF) each earned OCCAC pitcher and player of the week honors for the second consecutive week.

Anders tossed a complete game one hitter to help his team take three of four from Cuyahoga Community College this past week. He struck out six and didn't allow a walk in his one appearance.

White went 13-for-25 from the plate with 11 runs, five doubles, one home run, 15 RBI, four walks and four stolen bases.

Anders and White have led Sinclair to a 26-5 overall record and a 7-1 mark in OCCAC play.

All four players were also nominated for NJCAA player and pitcher of the week honors, which will be announced Thursday. Alex Anders of Sinclair Community College won NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week honors last week.
