VonBergen, Wood, Pena and Young Earn OCCAC Honors

The OCCAC has awarded Alex Young, Carlos Pena, Kahla VonBergen and Kelly Wood with player and pitcher of the week honors in baseball and softball.

Young, of Sinclair Community College, earned baseball player of the week honors after he went 9-for-13 with five runs, a double, a triple, two RBIs, one walk, one strikeout and four stolen bases. On the season, he is hitting .444 with 12 runs, seven RBIs and five stolen bases.

His teammate, Pena, earned pitcher of the week honors in baseball with a 2-0 record, 6.1 innings pitched, four hits, one earned run, two walks, three strikeouts and a 1.14 ERA. This season, Pena is 5-0 in 21 innings pitched with a 2.14 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

VonBergen, of Cuyahoga Community College, earned softball pitcher of the week honors after going 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 20.1 innings pitched. She struck out 12. For the season, she is 3-4 with a 3.15 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 46.2 innings pitched.

Wood, of Sinclair Community College, earned softball player of the week honors after hitting .667 (8-for-12) with 10 runs, four home runs, 16 RBIs and three walks. For the season, she is hitting .462 with 18 runs, four home runs, 21 RBIs, four walks and one stolen base.
