SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – A Tartan Pride pair has been bestowed the honor of the 2017-18 OCCAC Sportsmanship of the Year award as Sinclair’s Jazzlyn Petry and Alec Holtrey swept the Female and Male recognitions. Petry competes on the softball squad while Holtrey spends his time on the hardwood as a member of the men’s basketball team.
In addition, Jacob Kelley (Lorain County, men’s cross country) and Garett Robberts (Cuyahoga, baseball) were chosen for the OCCAC All-Sportsmanship Team as well. Petry earns her second straight spot on the OCCAC All-Sportsmanship Team after corralling the laurel last season, too.
The inaugural OCCAC Sportsmanship Award was presented a year ago and was given to a recipient from each of the five conference-sponsored sport. In 2017-18, the accolade was altered to include just one female and one male winner.

Petry is pursuing her degree in the Physical Therapy Assistant program and was named to the Dean’s List while making the OCCAC All-Academic Team. She has served as a leader of the softball program both on and off the field, earning the respect of her teammates and coaching staff. Petry’s guidance of a young pitching staff led to a second-place showing in the league standings. She was also front and center during the softball program’s community service projects. Petry was known for arriving first and not leaving until she was sure there was nothing else that could be done to help.
Holtrey made a meaningful impact during his lone season at Sinclair (accepted a scholarship offer to play at Webber International University next year) serving as a tri-captain. In that role, he went above and beyond by taking a pair of Jamaican student-athletes under his wing and mentoring them daily. Like Petry, he, too, led the community service efforts. From visiting military veterans, to monthly youth camps to serving 6,000 Thanksgiving dinners to those in need; Holtrey was also the “first one in, last one to leave” individual.
