Five conference institutions are represented in the 2024 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) annual volleyball awards, including an unprecedented three-way tie for Coach of the Year honors.
Owens and head coach Sonny Lewis seized the league title, and he shares Coach of the Year recognition with Julia Brandewie and Trinity Cline of Edison State and Clark State, respectively, who finished tied for second place. Brandewie and Cline are first-time honorees while Lewis earns his 12th such honor, beginning with his first back in 2002. Brandewie becomes the first Edison State coach to take home the award while Cline is the first Eagle to win Coach of the Year since Sherri Smith did so in 1995.
Speaking of that ’95 Clark State team, which captured the OCCAC trophy, Bailey Boppe is the program’s first OCCAC Player of the Year since Jodi Noffke in ’95. Boppe is joined by Lorain County’s Ava Haddix (Setter of the Year) and Owens’ Lilly White (Setter of the Year) as the 2024 annual award recipients. White was voted as the league’s top setter in 2023 as well.
