SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Four different OCCAC institutions are represented in this week’s Spring Sport Athlete of the Week (March 19-26) recognitions. Alex Jacobs (Sinclair) and Kaila Sense (Cuyahoga) are the Position Player of the Week honorees while Marcus Johnson (Edison State) and Sydney Aey (Lakeland) received Pitcher of the Week laurels.

Sinclair Community College
Baseball Position Player of the Week
Jacobs hit .625 (5-8) in a rain-shortened week for Sinclair. He opened with two hits in a 9-1 win over Cuyahoga before coming back in Game 2 of the doubleheader and connecting on three more base knocks, including a double. Jacobs came around to score as well in the second conference contest.

Softball Position Player of the Week
Sense recorded a hit in five of six at-bats (.833) and scored a run in both games last week for the Challengers. She went 3-3 and stole a base in a one-run loss at Onondaga before going 2-for-3 in a 4-0 victory over Mercyhurst North East later in the day.

Edison State Community College
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Johnson earns his second weekly honor of the season and third in his career after making two starts for Edison State last week. He toed the rubber for 13.2 innings, surrendering no earned runs and striking out 19 batters. Johnson opened the week by hurling six shutout innings in earning the win at OSU Lima on March 19 with seven Ks. While the victim of fielding errors behind him in a losing effort to Mercyhurst North East six days later, Johnson worked 6.2 more innings on the mound with zero earned runs thanks largely to a dozen strikeouts. For the week, he allowed only five walks and four hits in the 13.2 innings.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Aey tossed a complete game at Marietta College, fanning 11 batters in the process. She carried the Lakers to a 6-2 victory with a pair of unearned runs by scattering three hits and three walks to minimize the damage of a few defensive fielding gaffes.
