Pine Flanked by Three First-time Honorees

Marissa Pine (Edison State), a four-time OCCAC Pitcher of the Week, can now also lay claim to being an OCCAC Position Player of the Week for April 14-20. Her baseball counterpart is also a Charger — Parker Shannon. The pitcher award winners this week are Sammi Zabak (Cuyahoga) and Noah West (Hocking).

While Pine didn’t take a break from earning wins on the mound (a 5-inning complete game in Game 2), she excelled at the dish by going 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep over the University of Northwestern Ohio JV. Pine is now a four-time OCCAC weekly laurel recipient.

Shannon hit .533 (8-15) for the week, including a half dozen RBI in two tightly-contested games against conference unbeaten Cuyahoga. The freshman shortstop added some pop with two doubles, a triple and a homerun to slug an even 1.000. He also came around to score eight times after swiping three bases.

Zabak garnered an OCCAC win, going the distance in a 5-inning thrashing of Cuyahoga. She let up a lone run on five hits and four walks. Zabak helped her own cause offensively, totaling five hits, three runs and three RBI in the doubleheader sweep.

West was also the victorious pitcher in a 5-inning complete game. His performance capped off a 6-1 week for the Hawks. He allowed only four baserunners and one run.
