Week 10 Spring Athletes of the Week

Owens Athletics seized both Pitcher of the Week accolades for of April 25-May 1 while Mia Cipriano (Lakeland) and Ben Scartz (Clark State) were named Players of the Week.

MIA CIPRIANO | Softball (Position) Player of the Week
Lakeland Community College
Cipriano was retired just twice in 13 at-bats, racking up 11 hits to bat .846 for the week. She posted four consecutive multi-hit games while cracking a pair of homers and a double to slug 1.385. The sophomore catcher drove in at least one run in all four contests and totaled a half dozen RBI. She was a weapon on the basepaths as well, swiping three bags and scoring three runs.

Cipriano is now a two-time winner after garnering the award as a freshman in 2021.

BEN SCARTZ | Baseball (Position) Player of the Week
Clark State College
Scartz is no stranger to this recognition, earning the honor for the third time this season and four times in his career. He hit .500 (8-16) during a 5-0 week for the Eagles that ended in an OCCAC regular season title. Scartz scored seven runs and drove in four more. He was a thief on the run, stealing five bases.

MADDIE MOCKENSTURM | Softball Pitcher of the Week
Owens Community College
Mockensturm is a repeat winner as well, bringing home her third award this season (two for pitcher and one as the position player of the week). She was an absolute workhorse for The Express, starting all six Owens triumphs in the circle. Mockenstrum tossed four complete games and totaled 29 innings in her six appearances. The sophomore righty registered four wins after allowing a total of 10 runs (all earned) on 25 hits and 10 walks while striking out 39 batters.

CAM DARRINGTON | Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Owens Community College
Darrington began the week with a 5-inning complete game shutout versus the league’s top hitting team in Bryant & Stratton (OH). He came back later in the series to pick up a win during his 1.2 innings of relief in a slim 8-7 victory. For the week, Darrington accumulated 6.2 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out six.
