Three different institutions are represented in the latest OCCAC weekly awards with Player of the Week Juliana Rodriguez (Cuyahoga) and Pitcher of the Week Marissa Pine (Edison State) earning the softball laurels and Bryant & Stratton (OH)’s Jude Balser snagging Baseball Pitcher of the Week recognition.
Rodriguez reached base in 5-of-7 plate appearances during a doubleheader sweep over Edison State. The sophomore saw action at both third base and catcher, recording three hits, two RBI, two walks and a run scored in two tightly-contested wins (4-3 and 5-3).
Pine suffered a tough-luck loss in Game 1 of the series vs. Cuyahoga, going the distance with an unearned run deciding the game’s outcome. Her offensive pop gave the Chargers a chance, going 2-3 with a homerun at the dish. Pine also provided a hitless inning of relief in Game 2. In total, she logged 8.0 innings and 10 strikeouts, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and six walks.
Balser hurled a 5-inning complete game as the Bobcats sprinted past Terra State, 11-1. The lone run to come across was unearned as Balser struck out seven batters while allowing only four hits in picking up the win.
