Blakeman Joins Repeat Honorees in Weekly Spotlight

Carter Blakeman shined bright this week in key moments for Cuyahoga Baseball, earning himself OCCAC Position Player of the Week. Noah Blank (Owens) and Edison State’s Grace Shaffer and Hanna DeLong secured the other weekly awards, all repeat winners.

Grace Shaffer | Softball Pitcher of the Week | Edison State
For the third time in five weeks, Shaffer put together the top pitching performance of the week. In her latest award-worthy effort, the sophomore chewed up 17.1 innings across four appearances, including three starts and two complete game shutoutsultimately going 3-0 with 13 strikeouts. She blanked league adversaries in back-to-back outings against Clark State and Owens to cap a week which saw eight total runs, five earned, on 15 hits and five walks.

Hanna DeLong | Softball Position Player of the Week | Edison State
DeLong picks up her second career weekly honor after doing so on March 28, 2022 as a freshman. The utility option, spending time at both catcher and second base this week, is riding a 12-game hitting streak that includes 13 hits during this week’s 5-1 showing for the Chargers. She batted .619 (13-21) for the week with a whopping 15 RBI.

Noah Blank | Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Owens
Blank also tallied his second career weekly honor (April 4, 2022). This week, he went 2-0 in a pair of OCCAC starts, totaling 11.0 scoreless innings. He opened with six shutout frames at Edison State before coming back with a 5-inning complete game against Clark State a few days later. In total, Blank accumulated 15 strikeouts compared to just six hits and five walks during his dominating week.

Blakeman stepped up when his team needed him the most this week, delivering not one but two clutch swings in a doubleheader sweep of Lakeland. In Game 1 vs. the Lakers, he smacked a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 7th. Blakeman then recorded a game-winning, 2-run double to break up a 3-3 tie in the Triceratops 5-3 Game 2 triumph. He also contributed two hits and two runs during road wins at Westmoreland County for a 4-0 week.
