Sea of Nominees Narrowed Down to Four Winners

Allison Davis (Edison State), Stephen Osowski (Lakeland), Carissa Wheeler (Hocking) and Kale Wilkins (Owens) outlasted a large submission of nominations to ascend as the OCCAC’s weekly award winners for April 22-28, 2024. Wheeler and Wilkins are the Players of the Week for softball and baseball, respectively, while Davis and Osowski took home Pitcher of the Week laurels.

KALE WILKINS | Owens
Baseball Player of the Week
Wilkins got in on 20 runs — scoring 14 and driving in six — during a 4-2 week for the Express. He collected a dozen hits in 24 at-bats (.500 avg) and stretched three into doubles. Wilkins sped around the basepaths to the tune of two or more runs in five of six games and another lone tally in the remaining contest. He wrapped the week by going 4-for-4 in each of the last two games, totaling three doubles, six RBI and seven runs in the Saturday doubleheader vs. Terra State.

STEPHEN OSOWSKI | Lakeland
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Osowski went the distance in a pair of victorious 7-inning complete games against conference foes. He scattered five hits and seven walks in surrendering just four runs (three earned) in 14 innings. He retired nine batters via strikeout.

CARISSA WHEELER | Hocking
Softball Player of the Week
Wheeler and the Hawks had a busy week winning nine of 10 games, including a 5-1 mark in league play. The sophomore catcher was responsible for at least three runs (scored or driven in) in nine of 10 games. She went 14-of-28 (.500 avg) with three doubles and 13 RBI while drawing 12 walks for a .650 on-base percentage.

ALLISON DAVIS | Edison State
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Davis tossed not one, but two complete game shutouts to earn her third weekly conference award of the season. In the two starts, Davis matched her 13 scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts while allowing just three hits and two walks. She made a relief appearance as well and gave up a total of three runs on six hits and three walks with 15 strikeouts in 14.2 innings for the week.
