Edison State Softball’s Kaycie Albers and Marissa Pine were joined by Kohan Merritt (Cuyahoga) and Kai Canson (Hocking) as the latest OCCAC Players/Pitchers of the Week (Apr. 21-27).
Pine continues her dominance, bringing home her fifth accolade of the season and for the fourth week in a row. Her fourth Pitcher of the Week recognition comes on the back of a complete game win over Lakeland that included 15 strikeouts while allowing a lone unearned run to come across on two hits and two walks.
Albers went 6-for-7 in the doubleheader sweep over the Lakers, driving in seven runs and scoring two of her own. She also stole a base en route to becoming the third consecutive Charger to win the league’s weekly position player laurel.
Merritt had arguably the week’s most impressive overall performance, connecting on eight extra-base hits (five doubles, a triple and two homeruns) during a 6-0 week for the Triceratops. He slugged north of 1.000 and contributed directly to 21 runs (11 RBI, 10 runs scored) as Cuyahoga extended its winning streak to 38 games and clinched the 2025 OCCAC regular season championship.
Canson hurled a 7-inning complete game win versus Lakeland. His four hits allowed were matched by four strikeouts, resulting in just two runs (one earned) in the victorious outing.
