Four Rise Above the Rest Over the Last Week

Mason Johnson (Terra State) and Marissa Pine (Edison State) both wrangled their third OCCAC weekly honor this season (fourth of Johnson's career) as this week’s OCCAC Baseball Player and Softball Pitcher of the Week, respectively. They are joined by first-time honorees Jenna Dirksen (Edison State) and Vinny Gallaher (Cuyahoga).

Johnson terrorized at the dish throughout a 6-1 week for the Titans — going 13-of-22 (.591) with three doubles, a triple, a homerun and 15 RBI while coming around to score himself nine times. The corner infielder also drew three walks and stole three bases. He was a consistent menace, registering five multi-hit games and driving in at least one run in six of seven contests.

Pine had a busy week — coming up one inning shy of three consecutive complete games. She earned the win in all three starts, striking out 28 batters across 19 total innings. Pine allowed no more than two runs (one earned) in any of the starts while racking up double-digit K’s twice. Her dominant week included just eight total hits and two walks.

Dirksen is the third different Charger to earn Softball Player of the Week in 2025, joining Emma Kamerer (March 3) and Abigail Kadel (March 31). The freshman first baseman drove in multiple runs four times during a 6-0 week for Edison State. She totaled a dozen RBI, powered by a homerun in back-to-back-to-back games and a pair of doubles. Dirksen reached base nine times, coming around to score eight times.

Gallaher helped maintain Cuyahoga’s unblemished conference mark (16-0) by delivering a 7-inning complete game win in the third clash of the series against Hocking, a 3-1 victory. He surrendered a lone run on four walks and two hits while striking out six.
