Softball Joins Baseball in the Weekly Awards Fray

Four different schools are represented in the OCCAC weekly honors for Feb. 26-March 3. Edison State’s Ali Cox and Casey Barnes of Clark State are the OCCAC Players of the Week for softball and baseball while Tyler Staub and Kristen Stromack from Bryant & Stratton (OH) and Hocking, respectively, earned the Pitcher of the Week laurels.

Ali Cox | Edison State
Softball Player of the Week
Cox carried the Chargers to a 3-game sweep of St. Clair County, recording at least two hits, two RBI and a run scored in all three contests. She opened the 2024 scoring by smacking a grand slam early on in Game 1. The left fielder would go on to add another homerun and a double to push her slugging percentage to 1.182.

Casey Barnes | Clark State
Baseball Player of the Week
Barnes was directly responsible for 17 runs in four games played, driving in 10 and scoring seven more. The freshman third baseman flashed some pop, posting a homerun, triple and double en route to slugging .647. He registered at least one RBI in all four games, including a 5-RBI effort in Game 2 vs. Miami Hamilton.

Kristen Stromack | Hocking
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Stromack opened the season as Hocking’s starter in the circle, delivering a complete game win versus Macomb. She then came back to produce a hitless inning of relief in the Hawks’ second game. One unearned run snuck across in total as she saw allowed just six runners to reach base (three hits, three walks). Stromack missed a lot of bats, sitting down 13 batters via K.

Tyler Staub | Bryant & Stratton (OH)
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Staub tossed seven innings in a win over Lake Region (N.D.) to earn the win. He surrendered a lone unearned run while allowing just two hits and four walks. He struck out a baker’s dozen (13) worth of batters.
