Mockensturm & Charger Pair Secure Weekly Honors

Owens Softball began its 2022 season with a Spring Break trip that included a 5-1 mark and award-winning effort by Maddie Mockensturm. The second baseman/pitcher earned the OCCAC’s Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for March 14-20. Edison State teammates Mannee Wells and Kevin Bellamy were named the league’s baseball player and pitcher of the week, respectively.

Mockensturm started all six contests in the circle, pitching at least three innings in each before moving to second base. She earned the win in five of six starts while striking out a whopping 41 batters in a total of 21.1 innings pitched. Mockensturm surrendered just two runs on 10 hits and three walks.

She was a force at the dish as well, smacking nine hits in 13 at-bats (.692). Mockensturm connected on two homeruns and two doubles to slug 1.308. She drove in eight runs and scored six more of her own.

MANNEE WELLS | Baseball (Position) Player of the Week
Edison State Community College
Wells registered at least one hit in all four games for Edison State, totaling eight for a .571 (8-14) batting average. Two hits were of the extra-base variety, cracking a homerun and a double. He was directly responsible for a half dozen runs, scoring four and driving in two more.

KEVIN BELLAMY | Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Bellamy shut out OCCAC foe Lakeland in a victorious complete game. He scattered six hits and a walk in blanking the Lakers for 6.1 innings before weather halted the contest. Bellamy missed a lot of bats, striking out nine batters.
