Devonte Greene (Cuyahoga) and Rylie Homan (Edison State) were both unanimous selections for the latest OCCAC Basketball Player of the Week awards (Jan. 27-Feb. 2). It also represents the pair’s second honor this season and the third of Greene’s career.
Greene and the Triceratops earned two pivotal league wins, including a 91-90 triumph over Lakeland in a battle to keep within striking distance of Hocking for the OCCAC lead. He knocked down 10-of-12 shots for 20 points versus the Lakers, and came back with a monstrous 18 rebounds (and 25 points!) in a home win over Owens. For the week, Greene shot 76% (22-29) and averaged a double-double (22.5 points; 12.0 rebounds per game).
Homan showed up in a big way when her team needed it most — a 34-point burst in the battle with Hocking for first place. The Chargers came away as 69-53 victors and now sit alone atop the league standings at 8-1. She swiped eight steals as well in that one, followed by five more steals in a road win at Terra State. Homan totaled 49 points (dropping in 10 of 16 three-pointers), 13 steals, seven rebounds and season assists in the two victories.
