Owens Bronston (Edison State) is joined by co-honorees — Gianna Boyce (Hocking) and Allison Hughes (Edison State) — as the OCCAC Basketball Players of the Week for Feb. 17-23. Boyce, a freshman, picks up her first weekly award while the Charger sophomore pair are now each three-time winners this season and Hughes is a 6-time career honoree.
Boyce becomes the fourth different Hawk to earn the laurel in 2024-25. She was dangerous from long range, dropping in 11 three-pointers during two Hocking victories. Boyce shot 44% from beyond the arc and 48% (13-27) overall, averaging 19.0 points per game. She added eight assists, seven rebounds and a steal whiling playing 73 minutes.
Bronston filled it up to the tune of 33.7 points per game during a 2-1 week for Edison State. He tallied no less than 32 points in all games, capping off the week with 36 points against Bryant & Stratton (OH). Bronston knocked down 18 three-pointers in total and converted on 17-of-19 foul shots. He filled out the weekly stat sheet with 16 rebounds, five steals, four assists and a block while never leaving the floor in playing all 120 minutes.
Hughes and the Chargers protected their slot atop the OCCAC standings entering the season’s final week thanks to an 81-63 besting of Owens. Hughes put up 18 points and a dozen rebounds in that one, following with another double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) a few days later versus Community Christian. Eleven of her 23 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
