A pair of first-time honorees, La’Nia Moore (Cuyahoga) and Darian Leslie (Edison State) earned the OCCAC Player of the Week honors for Nov. 3-9.
Moore averaged a double-double (17.0 points, 14.3 rebounds) during a 4-0 week for the Triceratops. She cracked 20 rebounds not once but twice, including a 29-point, 20-rebound outburst against Oakland. Moore converted on 26-of-45 (58%) shot attempts while 25 of her 61 boards came on the offensive glass. She was also a major factor defensively, recording 10 steals for the week.
Leslie and the Chargers pushed the second-ranked D-II in the country, Parkland College, to the final minutes of a 94-86 defeat. Leslie poured in 36 points on 11-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-9 from long range. He also knocked down 10-of-11 free throws to give his squad a chance at the upset.
Edison State came back three days later and pick up a dub at Wayne County, 84-73. Leslie delivered 17 points, four rebounds, two blocks and an assist in that one. For the week, he shot 56% (17-32) from the floor en route to 26.5 points per game.
