First-Time Honorees Snare OCCAC Weekly Accolades

There wasn’t anything unlucky about Week 13 of the OCCAC Basketball season for Abigail Schmitz (Lorain County) and Chris Brownlee (Cuyahoga), each picking up their first OCCAC Player of the Week Awards while their teams went 2-0 in league play.

Schmitz stuffed the stat sheet with two-game totals of 49 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, five steals and a block in 70 minutes of action during two hard-fought OCCAC wins. She opened the week with a 27-point, 12-rebound double-double versus Terra State before coming back with 22 more points at Clark State.

Brownlee accumulated 48 points, seven assists, five steals and four rebounds. He was locked in from long range, burying 13 three-pointers in the triumphs over Bryant & Stratton (OH) and Edison State. The sharpshooter connected at a 43% rate (13-30) beyond the arc.
