A plethora of student-athletes which competed within the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference during the past two seasons have signed on to join NCAA-sponsored athletics programs in 2019-20.
Five student-athletes earned 2018-19 OCCAC Sportsmanship of the Year Award accolades, one from each of the conference’s sponsored sports. This represents the third year of the award’s existence.
The final match of the 2018 NJCAA DIII Volleyball Championship did not disappoint. In a five-set thriller, No.1 seeded Owens (OH) defeated No. 3 seeded Eastfield (TX), the 2017 defending champions. Owens claimed the first two sets of the match, before winning the final set of the match 15-13 at UCR Regional Sports Center in Rochester, MN.
Two of 12 teams still competing for the NJCAA D-III Volleyball Championship represent the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and Owens enters the final stage seeded No. 1 overall. Lorain County is in the top half as well, seeded sixth in the 12-team bracket set to begin Thursday, Nov. 8 in Rochester, Minn.
The 10th and final edition of 2018 OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week awards go to Edison State Community College’s Reagan Morret (D-II) and Michaela Eisenhauer (D-III) of Owens Community College.
Elizabeth Sicking’s dominance of the OCCAC D-II Volleyball Player of the Week award continues while Summer Sweeting lifted Owens Community College to a clinching of the conference title to earn her first career D-III Player of the Week recognition.
With the final weekend of play in the 2018 regular season, the No. 3 ranked Owens Volleyball team hit the road for the weekend with conference championship aspirations. The Express, who entered weekend play undefeated in OCCAC play, needed to win at least one game to clinch a share of a conference championship or win both to clinch an outright conference championship. It was easier said than done.
Elizabeth Sicking (Sinclair) maintained her stronghold of the OCCAC D-II Volleyball Player of the Week honor, notching her fourth distinction of the season, while Columbus State’s Tiziana Russell became the fourth different Cougar to wrangle the D-III award through eight weeks.
For the second time this season, Elizabeth Sicking (Sinclair) and Bobby Diamond (Columbus State) have been named the OCCAC Volleyball Players of the Week in the same week. This also marks the third weekly recognition for each honoree in 2018.
A pair of new names captured OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week honors for Week Six (Sept. 24-30) as Tionne El-Amin (Cuyahoga) and Georgia Payne (Columbus State) earned the D-II and D-III laurels, respectively.
Lakeland Community College earned its first 2018 OCCAC Player of the Week accolade with Morgan Smart’s superb efforts in three conference clashes. In addition, Michaela Eisenhauer of Owens brought home her second D-III weekly honor of the season.
On Monday (Sept. 17), Elizabeth Sicking (Sinclair Community College) and Bobby Diamond (Columbus State Community College) each picked up their second OCCAC Player of the Week honor through the season’s first four weeks. This also marks Columbus State’s third consecutive D-III honor after Edan Jones received the recognition last week.

Following an extremely loaded volleyball schedule around the OCCAC, the conference office announced Whitney Pleiman (D-II, Edison State) and Bobby Diamond (D-III, Columbus State) as the Volleyball Players of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 4).
