Hermiller, Rutter Named OCCAC Volleyball Player of the Week Recipients

Springfield, Ohio---Olivia Hermiller and Allie Rutter have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Division II and Division III players of the week in women's volleyball for Sept. 18-24.

Sophomore Right Side Hitter

Hermiller burst onto the scene with a career-best weekend to lead the No. 2 Owens volleyball team past No. 1 Parkland College, No. 8 Lincoln Land Community College, No. 15 McHenry County College, No. 20 Des Moines Area Community College and Edison State Community College.

The sophomore opened the week with five kills and zero errors over eight attempts in two sets of work against Edison State. Then, she temporarily tied her career-high in kills with eight in a win over No. 20 Des Moines Area. Against No. 8 Lincoln Land, Hermiller produced a career-high 18 kills at a .783 clip. She followed that up with 16 kills in a five set win over No. 1 Parkland, and then she closed the week with 10 kills in a three set win over No. 15 McHenry County.

Hermiller now has 109 kills this year, which is 17 more than last year in 22 more matches. She is hitting .385 with three assists, 14 digs, 24 block assists and one solo block.

Owens (20-0 overall) will host Clark State Community College at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Sophomore Outside Hitter

Rutter continued her fantastic season by producing the sixth triple-double of her sophomore campaign in a four-set victory over Lakeland Community College last week. 

Last Wednesday, Rutter totaled 12 kills at a .303 percentage along with 24 assists, 13 digs and one ace. It was her team's lone matchup of the week.

In 14 matches this year, Rutter has 121 kills (.248 percentage), 218 assists, 182 digs, nine aces, five solo blocks and 27 block assists. She eclipsed 300 career kills and 450 career digs against Lakeland.

NOTES

This is the first career OCCAC player of the week award for Hermiller, although it is the fourth time over five weeks a player from Owens has won the award. She joins Niki Polce (Aug. 27 and Sept. 17) and Devon Heitkamp (Sept. 3).

Rutter's award, meanwhile, is her third of the season. She also won on Sept. 3 and Sept. 10, and she was named the NJCAA Division III player of the week on Sept. 10. Her teammates, Abigail Lucas (Aug. 27) and Haley Litman (Sept. 17) have also given Columbus State a sweep of all five player of the week awards this year at the Division III level.
