Bierlein, Rutter Earn OCCAC Player of the Week Awards (Sept. 4-10)

Springfield, Ohio---Shayna Bierlein and Allie Rutter have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Division II and Division III players of the week in women's volleyball for Sept. 4-10.

Freshman Outside Hitter

Bierlein led Sinclair to five wins in its six matches last week by producing 81 kills, four assists, six aces, 100 digs and two block assists. She hit .251 for the week, but hit over .323 in four of the six matches, including a season-high .423 in a straight set win over Oakland Community College.

Overall, Bierlein has 143 kills (.168 hitting percentage), seven assists, 15 aces, 203 digs and five blocks (two solo) over 14 matches for Sinclair.

The Tartan Pride (7-7, 1-2 OCCAC) will travel to Hocking College tomorrow for a 6 p.m. conference matchup.

Rutter won her second consecutive OCCAC player of the week award by producing two triple doubles and one double-double while leading her team to three victories last week.

In a five set win over Sinclair, she had 12 kills (.243 hitting percentage), 23 assists, 14 digs and five block assists. In a straight set win over Clark State, she had six kills (.375 hitting percentage), 13 assists, 10 digs and two block assists. Then, in a four set win over Ohio University Chillicothe, she had 14 kills (.270 hitting percentage), 19 assists, 21 digs and three block assists.

During the week, Rutter totaled 32 kills (.278 hitting percentage), 55 assists, two aces, 45 digs and 10 block assists. Overall, Rutter has 81 kills (.261 hitting percentage), 144 assists, 118 digs and 28 blocks (five solo) this year for Columbus State.

Columbus State (8-2, 4-1 OCCAC) will be back in action tomorrow as the Cougars travel to Edison Community College for a 6 p.m. matchup.

NOTES

This is the third consecutive week a Columbus State student-athlete has won Division III player of the week recognition in the OCCAC. Rutter has won the past two weeks, and Abigail Lucas won the first week of the season.
