Heitkamp, Rutter Earn OCCAC Player of the Week Awards (Aug. 28-Sept. 3)

Springfield, Ohio---Devon Heitkamp and Allie Rutter have been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Division II and Division III players of the week in women's volleyball for Aug. 28 - Sept. 3.

DEVON HEITKAMP
Owens Community College
Sophomore Middle Blocker

Heitkamp produced 63 kills, two assists, four digs, one solo block and 18 block assists over a seven game stretch in which the No. 3 Owens volleyball team did not lose a set. She had 12 kills apiece in wins over St. Clair County and Schoolcraft, and she had 10 kills against Kalamazoo Valley. She hit at least .400 in five of those seven matches, including a season-high .750 against Kalamazoo Valley. Overall, she hit .435 for the week.

Overall, Heitkamp has 98 kills over 12 matches with a .359 hitting percentage for Owens. She also has two assists, six digs, two solo blocks and 31 block assists.

No. 3 Owens (12-0, 2-0 OCCAC) will be back in action on Wednesday against Cuyahoga Community College at 6 p.m. at home.

Sophomore Outside Hitter

Rutter produced two double-doubles and one triple-double as her team went 4-0 over a five game stretch during the second week of the season.

Rutter's best match during the week came in a five set win over Glen Oaks in which she had 15 kills (.317 hitting percentage), 20 assists, 14 digs and four blocks (two solo). She had double digit assists in four of the five matches, and she had double digit digs in five of the matches, including a high of 16 in a four set win over Jackson College on Sept. 2.

Overall, Rutter has 81 kills (.261 hitting percentage), 144 assists, 118 digs and 28 blocks (five solo) this year for Columbus State.

Columbus State (8-2, 4-1 OCCAC) will be back in action tomorrow as the Cougars travel to Edison Community College for a 6 p.m. matchup.
