Polce, Lucas Snag Season's First Volleyball POTW Awards

Springfield, Ohio---Niki Polce and Abigail Lucas have been named the season's first Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Division II and Division III players of the week in women's volleyball.

Sophomore Defensive Specialist

Polce led the No. 3 Owens volleyball team to four straight set wins over No. 7 Kirkwood Community College, No. 11 Des Moines Area Community College, North Iowa Area Community College and Kansas City Kansas Community College in the Battle of the Dells Invitational at Wisconsin Dells, Wisc.

The sophomore defensive specialist totaled 42 digs over the four matches, including 15 against Kansas City Kansas and 14 against Kirkwood. She also totaled nine service aces and three assists.

As a freshman, Polce earned Honorable Mention All-OCCAC recognition behind 2016 OCCAC player of the year Brooke Gyori, and she has stepped into the starting role as a sophomore.

Owens (4-0) will be back in action to open conference play on the road Wednesday against Lorain County Community College at 6 p.m.

Lucas totaled 21 kills, nine digs and five blocks as Columbus State took down Edison Community College in five sets before falling to Lakeland Community College.

In the win over Edison, Lucas had 11 kills at a .476 clip with six digs, three blocks and one ace. She followed that up with 10 kills at a .350 pace with three digs and two blocks in just three sets against Lakeland.

The Grove City High School graduate will lead Columbus State (1-1, 1-1 OCCAC) next with a road conference match at Hocking College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
