New volleyball program at Cincinnati State claims first victory of season

Cincinnati, OH---In Tuesday night's home opener, the Cincinnati State volleyball team earned its' first win of the season 3-1 over Miami-Hamilton University.
 
In the first collegiate volleyball contest held at Cincinnati State in over two decades, the Lady Surge got off to a good start, winning the first game 25-15. Taylor Zingheim led the offense with 4 kills followed by Lajoyia Whitney's 3 kills. Carly Henkenberns and Stephanie Gruenwald combined for 16 digs as the Surge took the first game.
 
Miami-Hamilton bounced back with a 25-18 victory in the second game despite a late 8-2 run by Cincinnati State to make the score 22-18.
 
In a tightly contested third game, Cincinnati State claimed a 25-20 victory thanks to 5 kills from Zingsheim and another 4 from Gruenwald. Whitney also provided a lift with 3 blocks.
 
In a 25-17 win in the fourth and final game, Cincinnati State's Tonya McDine set up the Surge attack with 17 of her 54 assists coming in the fourth. Skyler Hembree led the offense with 4 kills, while Henkenberns recorded 6 more digs to finish with 26 total.
 
Earning its' first win, the Surge will attempt to make it two in row on Wednesday when they host conference opponent Columbus State at 6 pm.
