Thurman, Kershaw Named OCCAC Player of the Week Recipients

Malik Thurman of Edison Community College and Hunter Kershaw of Columbus State Community College have been named the OCCAC player of the week recipients in men's and women's basketball.

Thurman, a 6-2 sophomore forward, had 30 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in his team's 82-68 conference season opening win over Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday. He finished 11-for-16 from the field and 8-for-14 from the foul line in his team's only game of the week.

Thurman is averaging a team-high 19.7 points per game for Edison (6-4 overall, 1-0 OCCAC). He is also contributing 7.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.1 assists per game.

Kershaw, a 6-0 freshman center, produced 22 points, 11 rebounds (five offensive), two assists and one steal in a 73-67 win over Cincinnati State Technical and Community College to open conference play on Saturday.

Kershaw finished 8-for-13 from the field and 6-for-10 from the free throw line in her team's lone game of the week. She is averaging a team-high 14.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game for Columbus State (4-7 overall, 1-0 OCCAC).
