Jamerson, Carter Win OCCAC Player of the Week Honors

Derrik Jamerson Jr. and Darian Carter have been named the OCCAC men's and women's basketball player of the week recipients.

Jamerson Jr. helped lead the Owens Community College men's basketball team to a 1-1 record last week by averaging 19.5 points, five rebounds and one assist per game. 

In an 89-81 road win over Henry Ford, the freshman guard produced 26 points, six rebounds and one assist while shooting 10-for-17 from the field and 6-for-12 from 3-point range. Then, in an 80-72 loss to No. 1 Schoolcraft College, he had 13 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. He went 5-for-12 from the field and 3-for-9 from 3-point range in the game.

Overall, Jamerson Jr. shot 15-for-29 from the field and 9-for-21 from 3-point range last week. This year, he is averaging 14 points, 5.8 rebounds and one steal per game. He is shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from 3-point range.

Owens is 4-7 overall. They will hit the road this weekend to take part in the Jamestown Post Journal Classic.

Carter, meanwhile, averaged 25 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals per game for the Cuyahoga Community College women's basketball team last week.

In an 85-71 loss to Lake Michigan on Dec. 4, Carter produced 12 points on 5-for-13 shooting. She followed that up with 30 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 74-66 win over Henry Ford College the next day. Then, on Sunday, she had 33 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and two steals in an 84-77 loss to Monroe College.

Overall, the freshman forward went 30-for-61 from the field and 15-for-22 from the free throw line.

Carter is averaging a team-high 17 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for Cuyahoga. She is shooting 41.1 percent from the field. Her team is 5-5 overall and will host Niagara County Community College tonight.
