Palos Hills, Ill.---Playing in the South Suburban Holiday Tournament title game on Saturday, the Cincinnati State women's basketball team defeated tournament host South Suburban College 66-65.

The game would not be decided until the final 0.1 second ticked off the clock with South Suburban shooting two free throws down 66-65.

Cincinnati State head coach Sonya Beeler used her final two timeouts before each free throw attempt. The first attempt rimmed out of the cylinder. The potential game tying free throw also missed as the Surge went on to win the tournament championship.

"In a situation like that, we thought we might as well use the timeouts to our advantage. You really never know how much of an effect it has on the shooter but we got the result we desired and won a nail biter on the road," Beeler said.

Freshman forward Emily Fite finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds despite being in foul trouble throughout the contest. Ericka Fitzpatrick, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Alexus Chinn also finished with 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Hannah Stephenson, the tournament MVP, recorded 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

With Saturday's win, the Lady Surge improved to 7-2 on the season with an impressive 6-1 mark on the road.

The team returns to action on the road on Wednesday against Walters State Community College.
