Sinclair women’s basketball gets first home win against Cedarville

Dayton, Ohio---The Sinclair women's basketball team (2-3) hosted the Cedarville JV team (1-1) on Wednesday.  Sinclair played a strong well-rounded game and beat Cedarville 73-65.   

Sinclair took an early lead on Cedarville in a face paced first half forcing 18 turnovers.  Sinclair led 27-12 with 9:09 left in the first half.

Ashley Morrow hit back-to-back shots with under 10 minutes remaining in the first half to put Sinclair up 31-18.  Jenae Curtiss hit a three pointer with 15 seconds left in the first half to put Sinclair up 42-29 at halftime.

O'Sha Owens led the first half with 14 points and two rebounds.  Breanna Ball recorded seven points, five rebounds, and three steals in the first half as well.Sinclair remained very strong when they came out to start the second half.  Their defense had a stellar performance forcing TO turnovers.  

Cedarville mounted a comeback with under eight minutes remaining.  With a three pointer for the Jackets made by Olivia Dolce and then a lay-up made by Olivia Petek the very next time down the court, the Sinclair lead was cut to 55-48.  But Sinclair continued to battle to keep the lead and their pressure and rebounding was the deciding factor in the end.  O'Sha Owens hit a jumper with about 4:15 left to put Sinclair up 68-56.  

Owens hit another jumper with a little over a minute left to put Sinclair up 73-61.Sinclair was led by O'Sha Owens (5-4/FR – Elida H.S., Lima, OH) with 26 points and six rebounds.  

Breanna Ball (5-6/FR – Belmont H.S., Dayton OH) put up a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds along with four steals. Jenae Curtiss (5-9/FR – Thurgood Marshall H.S., Dayton, OH) had eight points and eight rebounds while Ashley Morrow (5-6/FR – Springboro H.S., Springboro, OH) added 13 points and three rebounds.

Sinclair will be at home again on Saturday when they face Schoolcraft College at 2:00 PM in building 8 at Sinclair Community College.  The men's game will follow at 4:00 PM.
