Freshman Emily Fite leads Cincinnati State to victory in home opener

Cincinnati, Ohio---In Friday night's regular season home opener, Cincinnati State freshman Emily Fite led the Lady Surge to a 74-39 victory over South Suburban. 

Fite, a 5'11" forward from Seaman, OH, led all scorers with 22 points, converting 8 of 13 shots, to go along with 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

Sophomores Hannah Stephenson and Alexus Chinn contributed on both ends of the floor. Stephenson finished with 12 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Chinn finished with a game high 6 steals while chipping in with 10 points and rebounds.

Dawn Johnson, a freshman from Burlington, KY, scored nine points. Every Cincinnati State player who logged playing time scored in the game. The Surge forced South Suburban into 27 turnovers leading to a 30-11 advantage in transition points. Cincinnati State also won the battle at the line, making 23 of 31 attempts compared to South Suburban's 5 for 30 performance.  

Earning the first win on opening night, Cincinnati State returns to the court on Saturday to host Vincennes University at 6 p.m. The game features a pair of 1-0 teams which are both ranked in the top 20 in the latest NJCAA national polls.
