Lady Surge suffer first loss of season to Vincennes University

Cincinnati, Ohio---Coming off Friday's regular season home opener with a win over South Suburban, the Cincinnati State women's basketball team struggled on Saturday against Vincennes, ultimately losing 90-64.  

With no player over 6'0 the Cincinnati State roster, Vincennes, which improved to 2-0, capitalized on its size advantage in the post.

6'2" forward Anya Kalenta led the Trailblazers with 20 points, converting 9 of 14 field goals. 6'3" center Ashley Hawkins led all players in rebounding with 14 and blocks with 4. Forward Anais Kirvan and D'Angela Hawkins, who both are listed well over 6'0", came off the bench for a combined 22 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

With the size advantage, VU was able to convert high percentage shots, finishing with a 54.7 field goal percentage.  

For Cincinnati State, freshman Emily Fite finished with a game high 23 points and led the team in rebounds with 11. VU forced Cincinnati State into 25 turnovers, leading to a 36-12 advantage in points scoring of turnovers.

The Surge also struggled from the line, converting just 13 of 28 free throw attempts.  Falling to 1-1 on the season, Cincinnati State will return to the court on Saturday when the team travels to play Mott Community College.
