Cincinnati, OH---Chris Kervick scored a goal just minutes into the second half to help the Express cut their deficit to one, but Cincinnati State bounced back to upset the No. 15 Express men's soccer team 4-1 at Xavier University today.
The Surge took a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals by Bradley Gale and Justin Mitchell. Kervick's goal came just under two minutes into the second half. Following that, Gale scored his second goal and Justin Mitchell scored on a free kick for the final margin.
The goal was Kervick's first of the season. He already had three assists.
Both teams will now share the OCCAC championship with 5-1 records. The Express are 14-5-1 overall, while Cincinnati State improves to 11-5-2 overall.
The Express have now completed their regular season having already clinched a #2 seed, which earns them a bye in the quarterfinal round of the Region XII tournament. All seeds have not been clinched, so the Express won't know their possible opponent until tomorrow.
