Ervin Leads Edison Past Sinclair On The Road

Dayton, OH---Edison jumped on top of Sinclair to start the game on the back of sophomore Jacob Benanzer who scored a trey and two fielders to go up 7-0.

The Tartans were playing catch-up and got a boost from sophomore Drew Moore who came in and scored 13 points to lead Sinclair in the first half.  Charlie Byers would add 10 points in the half.

Edison got an impressive performance inside from their freshmen big man Brandon Ervin, who scored 16 first half points.  Sinclair was simply unable to contain him on the block.

Jacob Benanzer scored 13 and freshman Jordan Taylor added 12 points for Edison who held a 54-51 first half lead.

Sinclair ramped up the ball pressure in the 2nd half and Gavin Schumann came to life for the Tartans scoring 15 of his team high 22 points in the 2nd half including a dunk to give Sinclair their first lead of the game.

Edison wouldn't fold and found a nice balance inside with Brandon Ervin and Nick Tingle and outside with Kelly Kirtz and Jordan Taylor.

With Sinclair leading late Ervin tied it on a fielder and the Benanzer regained the lead for Edison on a trifecta.

Edison held off a hard challenge from Sinclair on their home floor to record a 94-88 win.

Edison placed 5 players in double figure scoring.  Brandon Ervin led all scorers with 26 points and had 16 rebounds for a double double.  Jacob Benanzer added 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting.  Jordan Taylor dropped 19 points and handed out 12 assists for another double double.  Kelly Kirtz added 15 points and Nick Tingle chipped in 11 for the win.

Gavin Schumann led Sinclair with 22 points; Charlie Byers had 16, Corbin Bates 15 and Drew Moore 14 for the Tartans.

The win was the third in row for Edison to raise their league record to 3-0 and 9-6 overall.  They are back in action Saturday hosting Columbus State.
