Cincinnati State Wins Season Opener 121-66 Over Oakton

River Grove, IL---The Cincinnati State men's basketball team launched the 2012-13 season with a 121-66 win over Oakton College (IL) in the opening round of the Triton Community College Invitational on Friday.

Eight Cincinnati State players finished in double figures. Point guard Thomas Jackson finished with  14 points and 10 assists.  Jackson's backup, O'Brien Hobbs, finished with 13 points, 8 assists and 4 steals. Cody Martin was the high scorer with 17 points while pulling down 6 rebounds and blocking 2 shots.. Dwayne Bazemore led the team in rebounding with 10 to go along with 13 points.

"Everyone played well tonight. We have been hungry to play a meaningful game since the first day of practice. They showed that tonight," said Head Coach Andre Tate. "This win sets us up for a tough game tomorrow against a top fifteen team in the country. This is our chance to make a early season statement."

The Surge will take on Danville Area Community College, a team ranked No. 13 in the NJCAA national poll, on Saturday at 6 pm at Triton Community College, the tournament host site. Danville Area enters the game coming off a win against Lakeland Community College, a team that was ranked No. 5.
